Oops … Forgot to mention …

I sent our “reservation message” to the foster-to-adopt people this week.  Our package is in the mail.  Looking forward to getting it and starting to gather the items we need to be prepared to surrender.  Once we have the package, I’ll post a list of things we need to work on … just in case others are looking into a similar program.

I do know we have to get to work on some early homework … apparently, we need to work on autobiographies … independently from each other.  Could take us some time, so we’ll probably get started on those before we start the classes.  The compressed time schedule for these classes is going to be like taking Summer school … and I never liked the idea of Summer school.

For another

So, I have a baby shower to go to in a couple of weeks.  I’ve already crocheted the blanket and I just spent the past hour or so on-line looking at baby gifts and registries.  This one is particularly difficult, as the couple got married shortly after we did.  But, they’re younger … so they didn’t have advanced maternal age to help them out.  I know the shower will be fun and I’ll enjoy talking to all the family / friends who will be present … but I also know there will be a little jealousy.  Guess I’ll have to take a look at Mel’s Holiday Survival Guide again and find some ways to make it applicable for the shower.  Perhaps I’ll think of my very own incentive to help me through the party.  If you have any recommendations for surviving a shower, please let me know.  I’ll be sure to let you know how things went.

Plan A ... Failed; Plan B ... Adoption

I've never done this before, so please cut me some slack ... I hope to get the hang of it.

DH and I met late in life and married.  I was 37 and 49 weeks (okay call it 38 ...); he was just shy of 40.  A first marriage for both of us.  We want children and have critters.  Good critters we love very much, but it's not quite what we hoped for.  Following our beautiful honeymoon, we started TTCing.  First shot out of the box ... it WORKED!  And then came the cramps and bleeding.  I was having a miscarriage.  So ... considering my age, we tried IUI and finally IVF.  Nothing except pain and heartache (that is if you don't count the tears, feeling of loss, and major emotional breakdowns on my part!).  Through it all, we've been there together ... hand in hand ... every appointment, every shot, every "there's always the next time".  The RE told us to continue with IVF we would need a donor egg.  We decided if a baby couldn't be both of us, adoption was the path for us.  So, here we are ... next step is to take the local foster-to-adopt class and see what happens.  Look out ... it could be a bumpy ride!
