SITM 2010 … A Preview

Woo Hoo!  My lovely SITM package arrived today.  I’m so excited!  You’ll have to check back next week to see my lovely surprises.  So, while you wait, go on over and visit Hannah, my really cool SITM buddy ….  and here’s a hint … I got more than socks!  And, if you really want to visit, check in on Sara, too … I sent her package on Saturday; looks like she’s got a lot on her mind with a hysterectomy coming up soon and just starting foster-to-adopt classes.  Be sure to send some warm thoughts her way.

Stalking and Updates

Like a stalker, it lays in wait … watching, waiting, and not revealing itself completely.  Then, starting small and suddenly, without warning, WHAMO … you’re down.  Hard.  Wondering how you can possibly go on.

That’s how my migraines are.  They’re definitely menstrual related.  They tend to come about a week or so before AF begins and last 72-96 hours.  OTC migraine meds become my friend when I have to work and make me jittery at the same time.  Sleep isn’t easy, but the prescription meds help.  DH has said he’s OK with using BCP to help smooth the rough patches, but while the patch helped with some months in the past, the migraines still came other months, just with greater fury.  I started with migraines around 11 or 12; when AF started for the first time, they magically disappeared.  In my 20s, they’d come on occasionally … last a day and then go away.  In my late 30s, I started to notice the tie again to AF and it just gets worse.  If you have AF-related migraines for an extended period, how do you deal with them?  What, if anything, have the doctors told you?  Even now, the pain is there … in the background … and the migraine med hangover is killing me.  I don’t drink coffee, but the caffeine from a GREAT big cup laced with chocolate and peppermint is sounding pretty good right now.  Too bad I’m reeling from migraine meds and have no business driving …

In other news, the Baby Shower was cancelled as a result of the weather on the East Coast.  As you all probably know, we’ve been snowed in around these here parts for days on end, with more snow expected next week.  It’s like we live in Minnesota or something …. I do love the snow though.  It’s so pretty when it covers all the evils of the world in a pristine cover of white – like the Earth reborn.  Just gorgeous.

In still other news, my SITM sender buddy revealed herself to me the other day and I can’t wait to get my socks in the mail (as soon as she digs herself out!).  As for my SITM receiver buddy …. I have until Saturday to get those little things in the mail and my best guess at this point is that I’ll make it!  Maybe I’ll package them up tonight (along with niece and nephew birthday presents) and have DH stop at the post office tomorrow when he goes to work.  Be sure to check back the week of February 22 to read about my socks.  And be sure to check out Kym’s site that week, too, to read all of the SITM stories.

One great thing about the snow … I’ve been able to work from home all week this week!  Woo Hoo!  Nothing like rollin’ out of bed and participating in meetings while still in your jammies!  Good thing none of those meetings are using a camera to share video, ‘cause in my current state, I might scare somebody!

Hope all remains well with all of you.  Only 23 days until we begin our foster-to-adopt classes.

Oops … Forgot to mention …

I sent our “reservation message” to the foster-to-adopt people this week.  Our package is in the mail.  Looking forward to getting it and starting to gather the items we need to be prepared to surrender.  Once we have the package, I’ll post a list of things we need to work on … just in case others are looking into a similar program.

I do know we have to get to work on some early homework … apparently, we need to work on autobiographies … independently from each other.  Could take us some time, so we’ll probably get started on those before we start the classes.  The compressed time schedule for these classes is going to be like taking Summer school … and I never liked the idea of Summer school.

For another

So, I have a baby shower to go to in a couple of weeks.  I’ve already crocheted the blanket and I just spent the past hour or so on-line looking at baby gifts and registries.  This one is particularly difficult, as the couple got married shortly after we did.  But, they’re younger … so they didn’t have advanced maternal age to help them out.  I know the shower will be fun and I’ll enjoy talking to all the family / friends who will be present … but I also know there will be a little jealousy.  Guess I’ll have to take a look at Mel’s Holiday Survival Guide again and find some ways to make it applicable for the shower.  Perhaps I’ll think of my very own incentive to help me through the party.  If you have any recommendations for surviving a shower, please let me know.  I’ll be sure to let you know how things went.

Plan A ... Failed; Plan B ... Adoption

I've never done this before, so please cut me some slack ... I hope to get the hang of it.

DH and I met late in life and married.  I was 37 and 49 weeks (okay call it 38 ...); he was just shy of 40.  A first marriage for both of us.  We want children and have critters.  Good critters we love very much, but it's not quite what we hoped for.  Following our beautiful honeymoon, we started TTCing.  First shot out of the box ... it WORKED!  And then came the cramps and bleeding.  I was having a miscarriage.  So ... considering my age, we tried IUI and finally IVF.  Nothing except pain and heartache (that is if you don't count the tears, feeling of loss, and major emotional breakdowns on my part!).  Through it all, we've been there together ... hand in hand ... every appointment, every shot, every "there's always the next time".  The RE told us to continue with IVF we would need a donor egg.  We decided if a baby couldn't be both of us, adoption was the path for us.  So, here we are ... next step is to take the local foster-to-adopt class and see what happens.  Look out ... it could be a bumpy ride!
